Hannes (Sebastian Bezzel) has everything one needs to be happy: a loving family, a house in the countryside and a solid career as a writer. Although his years of best-selling success are over, Hannes takes it in his stride – he is content to be a husband and father. However, his family sees things differently: his wife Sara (Anna Schudt) and children Carla (Kya-Celina Barucki) and Nick (Philip Müller) are increasingly annoyed by his overzealous care and late-blooming wisdom. And then everything happens at once: the publisher discontinues his novel series, Nick's prospects for graduating from high school look bleak, and Carla decides to move out of the family home. When his wife Sara finally wants a break from the marriage and moves into a shared flat with their daughter Carla, Hannes's comfortable world is turned upside down for good.
